📈 The tip
Last month we spent KSh 800K on a Nairobi restaurant rebrand launch. It got 14 bookings. This month we spent KSh 35K on a single 3-second reel of a chef plating. It got 240. Same week. Here's what changed in the offer, not the spend.
⚙️ The settings (Meta Ads Manager)
Campaign objective: Reach (NOT conversions)
Audience: 3-km radius around the restaurant, age 25-45
Lookalike of: 1% LAL of past 90-day customers
Placements: Instagram Reels only (auto)
Bid: Highest volume, no bid cap
Creative: 1 vertical 9:16 reel, no captions, 3s, raw phone footage
Daily budget: KSh 1,200
Run time: 5 days
💡 The trick
The reel had no music, no captions, no CTA. We let the visual do the work. The 240 bookings came from 3,400 reel views — a 7% conversion, vs 0.4% on the KSh 800K campaign. Same brand, same week, different offer. The lesson: when the offer is sharp, the targeting and budget almost don't matter.
📊 The numbers
- Spend: KSh 35,000
- Reel views: 3,412
- Profile visits: 1,890
- WhatsApp clicks: 612
- Bookings: 240
- Cost per booking: KSh 146 (vs KSh 57,142 on the KSh 800K campaign)
Honest caveat: the second ad set worked partly because it came after the KSh 800K awareness push — the audience was already warm. Don't read this as "always spend KSh 35K." Read it as "the offer is everything."
